Port of Marseille (Véran)
Our next stop in Marseille. The city is approximately 410 miles from Paris.
When we visit, you will notice that her people are also starving and enraged. The rumors about the First Estate, the nobles, hording food and King Louis XVI building up arms against the third estate have made its way to Marseille.
In the picture above, you can see Marseille surrounded the Port of Marseille. Located at the mouth of the Port of Marseille were two forts, Fort Saint-Nicolas and Fort Saint-Jean. Both fortifications were built to protect Marseille from foreign invaders.
Fort Saint-Nicolas
Just like the rumors reached the Third Estate, rumors about the Fall of the Bastille reached the governors of the forts. The governors feared that the same thing would happen to them. To protect the forts, both governors turned half of their armaments towards the city.
Our last stop will be Vendée France - The Massacre in Vendée
